What to check when NovaTextVN does not behave as expected

If something went wrong after install, start here. This checklist covers the most common reasons F10 fails or translation only works in part of the game.

Start here

Make sure novatextvn_patch.rpa and novatextvn_core.exe are inside game/.
Confirm that you restarted the game after copying the files and tried opening the menu with F10 while the game was already running.
If you updated, make sure old and new files are not mixed together inside game/.
Compare the game against the compatibility page: heavily customized UI or non-standard Ren'Py behavior can change results.

F10 does not open

  • Check the install path first: the files must be inside game/, not in the game root and not in an extra nested folder created during extraction.
  • Restart the game after copying the files.
  • If it still fails, reopen the install guide and walk through the steps again without skipping any.

Translation is enabled, but not everything is translated

  • Some Ren'Py games heavily customize UI, history, menus, or utility screens.
  • Base is mainly there for the core reading flow, while full UI coverage always depends on the specific game.
  • If the project is long and interface consistency matters more, check what PRO changes in practice.

  • Check whether old files from a previous build are still left in game/.
  • If you are unsure, remove both public-release files and install the current release again from scratch.
  • After the clean reinstall, open F10 and verify the state once more.

  • Download the release only from the GitHub Releases page of NovaTextVN-Releases.
  • The intended install file is the attached novatextvn_dropin.zip archive, not the auto-generated GitHub source archives.
